Yesterday, March 1st, I presented the resilient street project Calzada de la República, Mexico. This was part of the introduction to third-year students of the Water Management course, a follow-up of the course “Climatic Street”, at the Hoogeschool Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The Faculty of Architecture, Art and Design of the Tecnológico de Monterrey-Puebla, Mexico, invited me to carry out a design workshop. For 5 days, my online workshop will focus on visualizing river recovery strategies as well as protecting cities against floods, strengthening the economy and improving the quality of life in the Istmo region in the state of Oaxaca.

This workshop, part of the Climate Change seminar, is coordinated by Mikaël David Waterdrinker and Marta Núñez, lecturers at TEC.

Together with PLAAN platform, the Latin American Architects Association, with establishment in the Netherlands, we carried out a design workshop with focus on the project “Zarate and the Delta footprint", in Argentina. This workshop is part of the participatory process of stakeholders, both in Argentina and in the Netherlands, where the methodology of "Building with Nature" is a fundamental point.

Last January, we presented the draft of the master plan for Calzada de la República to the Ministry of the Infrastructures of the State of Oaxaca (SINFRA) and to the municipality of the city of Oaxaca de Juárez. This draft incorporates the resilience and climate adaptation measures, carried out by Deltares, and the principles of sustainable mobility, carried out by Move Mobility.

This project is part of the cooperation framework between the Netherlands, RVO- Netherlands Enterprise Agency, and the Ministry of Infrastructure of the State of Oaxaca (SINFRA). Our consortium, composed by my office (project leader), Deltares and Move Mobility, was the winner of the tender to carry out the design of the master plan.

Al Najaf has approximately 1,000,000 inhabitants, and is the third sacred city in Iraq, important for Shiites and the rest of Islam. The city is located south of Baghdad and is located between the Euphrates River and Lake Najaf.
